Speaking about the sale of defender Kyle McFadzean to MK Dons today (Friday, June 20), Mr Dunford told the club’s website: “He’s been a superb servant for this club for the last four years and you never like to see your established players leave but these things happen in foot, we’re building a new squad now.

“We’ve already signed six players, we’ll probably have another two next week at least. By the start of pre-season John (Gregory, Reds manager) will have a very strong squad available and that will be topped up by further incomings by July. So it’s quite an exciting period.

“I understand how our supporters will feel because at the end of the season we only had five players; Kyle (McFadzean), Joe (Walsh), Connor (Essam), Josh (Simpson) and Andy Drury on our books. As I’ve said we’ve signed the six already and there will be four more to come.”
