Crawley Town manager Mark Yates was delighted with his squad’s performance in beating Burgess Hill 4-0 on Wednesday.
A goal in the first few seconds by trialist Roarie Deacon was followed up by a second on 17 minutes by new signing Shamir Fenelon.
It was all chance with 11 different players in the second half but the outcome was the same with two goals by Izale McLeod.
Yates praised: “I’m really pleased with the effort and the application that the players put in.
“The lads have shown what they can do and have got a real good spirit among them.
“We’ve got some real good players here. After two weeks’ hard work I’m pleased with everything that tonight’s been about.
“We talked about playing positively in each half. It was important we got a couple of good weeks’ training into them.
“We have a lot of games now and hopefully we can just keep going in the same vein.
“There were lots of things we can work on but for the first one after listening to me and Jimmy for two weeks that’s what we want.”
Yates was encouraged by the displays of both the ten trialists he fielded and the existing members of his squad.
He said: “I brought people in to try to earn a contract. They want to look at us and see what we’re about.
“I was really pleased with the squad that I’ve got and the group as a whole.
“It was a very nice start for us.”
