Dean Saunders admits: ‘Losing Richard Wood has taken its toll’

Saunders said: “We didn’t do enough today and we didn’t defend very well at all. There were too many things going on that don’t normally go on defensively, we’ve been so solid.

“Losing Richard Wood in midweek has taken its toll today. We’ve lost four defenders and I had to put in a completely new back-four and we didn’t defend like we normally do.

“Their first goal was horrendous defending and their second goal was the same and we just didn’t look our normal selves.

“Brian Jensen had to make too many saves - we don’t usually concede that many chances.

“We got a goal back and looked like we could scramble something out of the game but in the end we didn’t do enough all over the pitch.

“It’s disappointing because it was a big game and if we had won this game, we could’ve put ourselves in a position and could have been clear before the last two games.

“Now it’s going to go to the last two games.”
