Dean Saunders is set to be named as Chesterfield manager in the next hour.
Yesterday the League One club lost their manager Paul Cook to Portsmouth and have worked quickly to secure his replacement.
Saunders, who lives in Cheshire, was Crawley Town’s interim manager at the end of the season, but despite improved results could not stop them being relegated from League 1.
Chesterfield have called a news conference for 12 noon today where it is believed they will unveil Saunders as their new manager.
Saunders had been named amongst a number of potential candidates to take on Reds full-time next season.
He was due to meet the Crawley board early this week and had said he wanted assurance of a promotion-winning budget to take the role.
