On the eve of a new chapter at the club the former Birmingham City, Everton and Plymouth man reckons getting promotion into the Championship will eventually be possible.

He said: “Crawley Town approached me 10 days ago when the vacancy came up and I met the directors. I was very impressed with their commitment to the club.

“The club’s size has got issues because they have really over-achieved in the last few years. If it continues at this rate we will be in the Premier League!

“We will be hoping to improve on the recent success and we’ll be looking to build in the future and take it to another level.

“It will be small steps rather than giant leaps. We have got to look at all avenues to take the revenue up which can then be invested in the team.

“My strength has been in a club environment of varying sizes. I am very grateful to the board for giving me a part to play here in what is an exciting time for Crawley.

“They did very well in League 1 last year and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead. It will be a team effort to build a better Crawley Town on and off the field.

“Our next step has got to be the Championship. We have got to manage the expectancy of the fans who are on the up.

Ultimately the Championship is a possibility.”
