The striker has joined initially on loan with a view to making it a permanent, two-year deal for an undisclosed fee, thought to be below the £100,000 Reds reportedly paid Peterborough for the player five months ago.

The 26-year-old has scored four goals in 12 appearances this season for Crawley, but has never fully established himself as a first-team regular and joins a Cobblers side sitting rock bottom of League Two.

Sinclair becomes the third attacking player to have left on transfer deadline day with Nicky Adams signing for Rotherham United and Gary Alexander to Burton Albion.

Reds boss John Gregory missed out on Halifax striker Lee Gregory, having made at least two bids, but did sign goalkeeper Ross Atkins on a 28-day emergency loan from Derby.

Earlier in the January window Crawley signed Matt Tubbs on loan, and Gary Dicker on a short-term contract, both until the end of the season.
