The 34-year-old today (Friday January 31) tweeted: “Just like to say thanks to everyone at Crawley Town. Up and Down at times but loved every minute of it thanks again and good luck #CTFC”

The League Two club have confirmed the deal, and Burton manager Gary Rowett reportedly said: “Gary is a great addition for us. He is maybe something we’re missing at the moment.

Alexander signed for Reds from Brentford in April 2012, initially on loan and scored seven goals in 14 appearances to help Crawley to automatic promotion from League Two.

He took over as interim boss of the club for a game in November alongside Martin Hinshelwood when Richie Barker was sacked, but only two months later his stay at Crawley looks to have come to an end.
