The former Aston Villa boss knows first hand of the top flight and is hoping to sign some loanees to bolster his side before the end-of-August deadline.

Gregory hinted that he was interested in some of the players on show with their Chelsea opponents on Saturday, but is well aware it won’t be a simple task to ‘raid’ the Premier League giants.

On his current trialists, he said: “I’ve look at them in three games this week, I have to be honest there have been one or two that impressed me, but it’s a question of assessing what I need as I go on.

“Obviously the window is still open until the end of August, so during the next few weeks I still have opportunities to bring in more loanees if I needed to and register them before August 31.

“I will probably have to do that anyway just to make sure we have a big enough squad in depth to continue during the season.

“Clubs have looked after their selves at the moment, which is what anyone in the Premier League would do, you don’t want to be releasing your players if you think there’s a chance they could force themselves into the first team or fill up squads.

“Chelsea have got a few that we’d be very interested in, but getting them away from Chelsea isn’t easy and bringing them down to League One isn’t easy, if there was a chance to go to the Championship they’d prefer to go there.

“I know a lot of the Premier League clubs have been hanging onto their players and not making decisions yet.

“There maybe a chance we can raid the Premier League and get a player down here to develop them and obviously help us.”
