Mark Yates gives his views on Crawley’s win

Reds rallied from being 1-0 down at half-time to win 2-1 through two goals after the break by Rhys Murphy and Matt Harrold.

It was Harrold’s first goal at home since joining Crawley in June 2014.

Yates said: “We go a goal down but we showed great character to bounce back and second half is how I want this team to play.

“Some tempo, some desire, some energy, some good passages of football, looking after the ball and knocking it around and some goals. That’s what we need!

“First half - it was quite windy believe it or not out here today - and we struggled to get into their half. Darryl’s kicking was good but it was allowing them to get back to us.

“Second half we were getting the ball 15-20 yards further into their half I think you saw the best of Matt (Harrold) and Rhys (Murphy) playing off him really sharp.

“I felt the goal was coming. I felt if we could get one we could go on and win the game. I was just about to make a substitution to take Rhys off when he scored - so that shows how good a manager I am!

“But we stuck at it and I thought we played some decent football second half.”

Yates praised new signing Darryll Flahavan for his performance on his debut in goal, having been preferred to Callum Preston who started their last two games.

He said: “Darryl’s been here since Tuesday. We had a practise game here on Tuesday and had a look at him in that. He’s been training at Portsmouth all season and you could see he’s in great shape. He was recommended highly at Portsmouth.

“Although we thought that Callum can feel very unluckly to be left out today. It was a tough one which I slept on last night and I decided to stick Darryl in.

“He didn’t have a great to do but what he did he looked accomplished and now him and Callum will be fighting it out for the shirt every week now.

“We started the season off pretty well and then we had a dip after the first international break.

“We talked about this international break, turning the corner and making it a positive one and we’ve done that twice, we’ve had to come from behind, twice.

“I am delighted for the supporters. We are only going to get supporters coming back if we keep producing results.

“The last two have gone some way towards writing the early season form off.

“We are back on an even keel and we need to make this a really tough place for people to come to, we know that.”
