The spot became available over the summer when Ryan Dickson left for his home town club Yeovil Town, where he has been made captain.

Since then, Bobson Bawling and trialist Belgian Bryan Van De Bogaert have played, the latter impressing before injuring his knee against Nuneaton.

He said: “After we’ve got our left-back we are done. Bryan has played a couple of games and shown he is pretty decent player. But won’t make Oxford. We shall see what we can do. We are taking phone calls all the time.”
