Steve Evans says comments were ‘disrespectful’

Steve Evans seemed to suggest Crawley Town manager Richie Barker was ‘disrespectful’ in the wake of his Rotherham United’s victory over his former side on Saturday.

Barker was reported in a newspaper as saying with the finances the Millers had available they ‘should be a top side’, but responding to Evans’ words he insisted he wasn’t being disrespectful.

Evans spent five years as Crawley manager before leaving for Rotherham and speaking after the game he said: “There was some words spoken before the game about budgets and nonsense like that and nothing about the success this management team had.

“That was disrespectful but we never said anything before the game, we’re not going to talk about it after the game. Some people need to remember that I know what players are in here, I was here, I was the manager.”

But Reds boss Barker said today: “I don’t think it was disrespectful at all. They bought two players that a lot of other clubs in this division including Crawley couldn’t afford and I was asked the question about their budget and I don’t think I was being disrespectful in what I said.”
