Manager John Gregory confirmed the club were in talks with two players about joining, and the deals could be completed in time for Saturday’s game with Carlisle.

Speaking at a press conference today, Gregory confirmed: “They’re talking today. We’re nearly there.”

The club will officially announce the signings when the ink is dry but at least one of the players is thought to be a defender with Gregory keen to add cover in that area.

Last Saturday Reds signed Crystal Palace duo Hiram Boateng and Sully Kai Kai, both 18, on an initial 28-day loan with a view to extending their stay.

Everyone is currently available for this Saturday’s game at the Broadfield, including Dannie Bulman who is likely to make the bench after recovering from a fractured cheekbone against MK Dons on Boxing Day. Gregory confirmed he will not wear a protective mask when he does return to action.

The continued rainfall has put the fixture in doubt, although the covers are currently off the pitch.

The club is expected to make a further announcement later today and with the visitors travelling hundreds of miles, any pitch inspection is likely to take place on the Friday.
