Crawley Wasps progress in Challenge Cup after Farley's extra-time winner

Brooke Farley scored twice, including netting an extra-time winner, as Crawley Wasps’ Under-14s progressed in the Sussex Girls Challenge Cup on Sunday.

Dave Connor’s team twice came from behind to edge out Withdean Youth 3-2 at Dorothy Stringer School in Brighton.

Farley got the first equaliser with Connie Penlington levelling again for Wasps in the final 10 minutes, although she later came off injured.

In the first half of extra time, Grace Hill superbly found Farley to give Wasps a 3-2 lead – and the team dug in to secure the result with just 10 players after injury to the influential Katie Smyth.

Connor said: “Huge credit should be given to both teams for a truly epic game. I can’t pick out any individuals because it was a complete team performance, with every player contributing.”

The Under-13s also faced Withdean in the cup but were beaten 3-2. Holly Hunt and Jasmine Smith were the goalscorers, with Grace Deweer named Wasp of the Day.

Imogen Beasley scored a penalty and Emillie Peacock was also on target as the Under-12s drew 2-2 with Horsham Sparrows in the Sussex Girls League. Leticia Terry was named the player of the match.

The Under-15s lost 6-1 to Hollingbury Hawks, with Orla Humphrey netting for Wasps.

Due to league and FA rules, we can’t print results for the four youngest age groups but Chloe Mallard was named Wasp of the Day for the Under-11s at Crawley Down Gatwick, with Mya Harvey-Owens and Chloe Randall winning it for the Under-10s Black at Withdean Youth Galaxy.

Tia Clayton and Erin Steer were named Wasps of the Day for the Under-9s at Billingshurst.
