Drummy happy to bring back the smiles at Crawley Town

It was all smiles at Crawley Town as they got their season off to the perfect start on Saturday and that's the way head coach Dermot Drummy likes it.

The club’s Turkish owner Ziya Eren was in town to see Jimmy Smith’s goal bag Reds an opening-day victory.

It was their first at home victory in seven months - that last elusive home success came against Newport back on March 1.

It was a tasty tonic for the Checkatrade Stadium which was shrouded in a positive on the opening day.

And Drummy is delighted his players have managed to brighten the mood after a dismal last season which ended with eight straight defeats.

He said: “It was nice to see they (the players) turned up with their children and families and seeing Ziya (Eren) smiling, it was great.

“I have a nerve for everyone else and for the president. I have spent so much time on the phone about where the club is going, can we get the money to do the hub? Can we have the money for this player?

“I am really happy as when I ask for something off someone money wise and they say yes, then I feel I owe them for that.

“If we can put a smile on Ziya’s face, when I looked up into the box, I don’t think any amount of money can do that. Football is such an emotional subject that everyone loves to win.

“When it does come off it is great, but when we lose we have to maintain our principles.”
