The latest from the EFL is that the season could be completed in 56 days, with some games played behind closed doors. That timeframe – which equates to just eight weeks – would see all remaining fixtures, plus the play-offs, completed.

The EFL have also told all clubs NOT to return to training until May 16 at the earliest – but have pledged to give sides adequate time to prepare for the resumption of the campaign.

When asked if it could be done, Yems told us: "I think it’s very possible. But it would be nice to know when the 56 days is meant to start!

"I think if someone said you have got to start tomorrow on a playing field in the middle of Ifield you would do it, wouldn’t you?"

Yems said: "I think it’s frustrating for people not to be able to get out and watch a game of football, frustrating not being able to get to work with the lads.

"But in the cold light of day let’s get real, I am not waking up everyday having to go to work in a hospital and deal with sick people, that’s the reality of the situation.

"Let’s not lose sight of that. There are people out there doing more important things than we are doing, which is trying to win leagues."

The Reds have not played since March 7 when they beat Oldham 3-0. But with the training regimes put in place for players while they are in isolation, Yems has no worries about getting back into action.

He said: "Everybody will be ready. As soon as we have that first kick off we will back to wanting to win games but let’s not get carried away. There are people doing more beneficial things and sacrificing a lot more than what we do.

"I think the lads, and in fact anyone in football, realise they are very lucky to be able to walk out on a football pitch and earn a living."
