The Welsh under-21 international signed a one-year deal at Crawley Town this week, having been released by Championship side Ipswich Town at the end of last season.

The 21-year-old made 21 appearances at Reds last season after joining on loan in September.

And despite not being sold on him at first, Drummy believes he has all the attributes to grow into a great player with a bit of encouragement - a tip he picked up from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Drummy said: “When I first saw Josh, I looked his technical ability and then I saw him in a couple of games where he wasn’t very good, but the background to that was he wasn’t playing and with the situation at Ipswich and whether he was going to get a contract or not.

“I looked at the whole picture for Josh and thought, well he is a young man, Welsh under-21 and learning the game.

“I remember talking to Steve Bold and he said he was 25 by the time he learnt to understand defending.

“It’s a good thing for these guys to understand they are learning still. What I like about him is he is fiery, he gets onto people in training and he is passionate about the game.

“I have to say he is perfect to deal with in signing for Crawley Town, he wants to come here. I want people that want to come and play here.

“I think Josh can come on and be a much better player, I even see a holding midfielder role for him. Sometimes you need a manager to tell you something.

“(Arsene) Wenger told me he used to tell Bergkamp he was the best player in the world. I said, ‘it’s Dennis Bergkamp’, he said, ‘no I still tell him’. It’s the managerial side aspect of players.
