FAN'S VIEW: Crawley Town deserved more than a draw at Grimsby

Just like at Barnet the week before, Crawley's trip to Grimsby on Saturday deserved more than the impressive point they returned home with.

Crawley's form on the road in recent games has been promotion-winning form. Unfortunately Crawley's home form has been the exact opposite. Thankfully we seem to have accumulated enough points already this season to extinguish any worries about relegation. One more win this season should surely secure a seventh season in the football league. But just five weeks ago we were looking at gatecrashing the play-offs. That's football for you, the highs the lows and the Jimmy Smith 90th minute misses! I'm not digging Jimmy out who has been captain fantastic all season. The week before it was James Collins missing a potential 90th minute winning chance at Barnet. It has left many Crawley fans and I'm sure Dermot and Matt scratching their heads as to why we are so good away, yet at home we have been so poor over recent months. The truth of the matter is we have got a squad to be proud of this year, the talent is there for all to see. Josh Payne, James Collins, Jordan Roberts to mention three. These guys could easily be playing at a higher level. But they're not, they're our players, and the team should be built around these guys in the summer. If we can retain the core of this team then the summer could prove to be a very exciting time. I'm sure the management have their ideas as to who's staying, who's going and what players they will be going after. I wouldn't dream of telling Dermot how to do his job as a football manager, just as I wouldn't expect Dermot to come to my place of work and tell me how to drive my train. But please, please, please can we sign a couple of recognised full-backs in the summer. This isn't a dig at Lewis Young either, who after playing an impressive 125 games for the Reds has become one of our longest-serving players and certainly one of the most improved during his time here. But we all know Lewis was signed as a winger who is great at bombing down the wing and who's crossing has improved greatly since John Gregory first brought him to the club in 2014.This Saturday we entertain Leyton Orient who now sit in 92nd place, bottom of the entire football league seven points adrift of safety. The O's fans will come to the Checkatrade in huge numbers hoping for a miracle to preserve their football league status. Let's just hope all the charity that the Reds have handed out to visiting teams in recent weeks has been used up and we can finally get that elusive home win again to guarantee our own football league status.
