Final call made for Sussex Sports Awards nominations

Active Sussex has made a final call for Sussex Sports Awards nominations with the deadline approaching at midday tomorrow (October 23).

The black tie event, to be held at The Grand Hotel Brighton, on Friday November 27, will celebrate the achievements of Sussex sports stars and welcome a special guest, London 2012 heptathlete Louise Hazel.

She has competed in four major international championships, including the 2010 Commonwealth Games, where she won the gold medal for England, with a personal best of 6.156 points. She will be on hand to inspire the audience and young athletes with her tales and anecdotes as she worked her way up to claim international recognition.

Sussex Sports Awards nominations are open to anyone who has made an impact on sport in Sussex and been an inspiration to others, whether as part of a team, as a coach, volunteer, or as an individual athlete.

Sadie Mason MBE, Active Sussex CEO, said:: “Our successful summer of sport would not be possible without the unsung heroes who volunteer throughout the year, from the catering teams to the ground staff and coaches who enthuse and encourage.

“Our grassroots heroes are just as important as our national sporting heroes. This is why it’s so important to cast your vote before it’s too late so they have their efforts recognised for without them, sport across Sussex would not be possible.

“It has also been another bumper year for our elite athletes as they compete across the UK and internationally in various competitions. They too will of course have one eye firmly on next year’s Olympic Games in Rio.”
