Footballer picked for England Colleges

An up-and-coming female footballer has been selected to represent England Colleges.

Izzy Burt was part of a 22-strong national squad for the 2012/13 season announced last Friday. The squad will contest matches against Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Estonia over the coming months.

The 17-year-old from Hastings attends Worthing College and takes part in their football academy. It was through the academy that Izzy went to the England Colleges trials, the last of which was held over two days at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

She is also a regular reserve team player for Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s FC and made her first team debut against Lewes in the County Cup this year.

Izzy started playing football for a boys’ team and then joined local girls’ sides before being scouted by Brighton aged 14. She also played schools’ football at St Richard’s Catholic College in Bexhill. Izzy had always played in midfield until moving to right-back this year.
