The 25-year-old striker’s contract was cancelled at the Shrews, who he joined for a second spell back in 2014, by mutual consent early today.

It paved the way for Crawley to sign the forward, who had scored 48 goals in his 154 games his former club.

The ex-Aston Villa and Swindon Town man, who spent the majority of last season on loan at League Two winners Northampton Town, had been heavily linked with a move to Reds.

He helped Shrewbury secure promotion to League One in 2014 after joining from Villa and counts Hibernian amongst his former clubs.

In March, Collins was fined two week’s wages and forced to apologise when he was caught urinating into a cup at Cheltenham Races.
