Former Bournemouth and Bristol Rovers midfielder signs for Crawley Town

Crawley Town Football Club have signed Sam Matthews on a two year contract, with the club holding the option of a third year.

Matthews, 23, will officialy join the club on the 1st August having been released by League 1 Bristol Rovers.

Matthews, a midfielder, was born in Poole and started his career with John Yems at AFC Bournemouth and has subsequently enjoyed loan spells at Braintree and most recently Eastleigh.

Having secured the signing, Head Coach John Yems said: "I'm really pleased to secure Sam's signature, he's a good young player and I've known him a long time. I'm sure he'll fit in well with the rest of the lads and will certainly add value across the midfield. It's a bit of a coup for us in all honesty."

Technical Director Erdem Konyar said: "Sam brings quality and creativity to the squad. The existing positive relationship with John is a massive plus which will bring out the best in Sam. It’s an exciting signing for the club."
