Vines said: “They will bring maturity and know-how to the side. We are not the finished article as we had two make-shift centre-halves but you can see how well they’ve done and I’m extremely happy. Some I have seen, some are players where I have taken the word of people whose judgement I trust.

“I was told we have had only one win in 15 games. We have got a serious amount of work to do by me and the players but wouldn’t it be good if we could change that statistic to only one defeat in 15 games!”

This Saturday should also see the return of to the Crawley area of former Crawley Town favourite Ben Judge who plays for the Anvils’ third-placed visitors Hastings Utd.

Vines said: “He was a great player and very consistent and is still playing very well at 36.”
