The first day of this year’s Furngate Sixes youth football tournament was a great success.
The biggest and best football event for kids in the south east was again sponsored by the Crawley Observer and was held at the excellent spacious facilities of the Oakwood School in Horley.
Players and spectators enjoyed warm weather throughout with temperatures around 25 degrees and sunny.
There was success too for local sides as they won three of the four events completed.
Crawley United Blue won the under-11s competition beating Perrywood Tigers 4-3 on penalties in the final after the game ended up 1-1 after extra-time.
Charlwood Blue triumphed in the under-nines tournament having overcome host club Furngate Youth 2-0 in the final.
Perrywood Wildcats became under-sevens champions, cruising to victory in the final 3-0 against Crawley Town.
Balham Blazers Colts brought a three-year winning run in the competition to an end when they beat Wisborough Green 6-5 in a thrilling penalty shoot-out after the match ended goalless.
Action continues today (Sunday) at Oakwood School for Day Two when it’s the turn of the U10s, U12s, U14s U15s and U16s to compete.
