He reckoned the way they withstood the home side’s non-stop attack was ‘Unbelievable.’

His goal was his eighth of the season and third in three meetings against Luton.

Harrold said: “I don’t know if I’ve ever scored against them before in my career. I’ve saved them all for this season.

“That is probably the biggest goal of the season in a way.

“They are a very good side and I think their manager has got them playing with a lot of confidence, very attacking, but I just thought the way we defended, dug in and showed character was unbelievable.”

Harrold stressed that Reds were helped with some fortunate hits against the woodwork.

He said: “It was probably the result of the season. We rode our luck at times when they hit the bar and stuff, but if you look we had some good chances.

“My chance, and Liam McAlinden’s chance and we have had a feel other shots and stuff. It’s just a great feeling and the fans must be buzzing.”

“It’s great to come away with three points. The gaffer must be delighted. He’s finally got some numbers, some options.

“(Goalkeeper) Paul Jones hasn’t had a tremendous amount of work to do.”

Harrold had been suffering with injury since last weekend’s draw with Morecambe, but the striker believes a week of rest was the best way to recover and be ready for Saturday.”

Harrold revealed he did not train this week to allow his injuries to recover.

He said: “After the game against Morecambe, I was feeling a few bumps and bruises. I felt like I’d been in a car crash!

“I kind of just rested a lot during the week and tried to let things, like my shoulder, my knee, my hamstring, my jaw and my toe, heal.

“I just wanted to put in a performance (at Luton) and enjoy it out there.”
