'It was a positive result and something to build on' - Crawley Town midfielder Josh Wright upbeat after Southend United draw

Crawley had plenty of chances but couldn't find the back of the net at Roots Hall.

The draw saw The People's Pension Stadium outfit fall to 15th in the table.

Wright conceded that the Reds were 'guilty of wasting some chances' but looked to the positives.

He said: "(Southend) are fighting for their lives if you like, they're very nervous, and if you get one (goal) it could turn into two or three.

"We felt like if we had that one before half-time it could have been that.

"We were a bit guilty of wasting some chances, even getting into some very good areas and maybe not pulling the trigger.

"It's a point on the road. Some people may look at it and think it's against a team down the bottom, but sometimes at this stage of the season these are the toughest games.

"After last week I think it was a positive result and something to build on.

"I enjoyed playing in that one. It was what I would describe as a proper football game.

"It's a shame that we didn't get that goal to maybe take the three points but I think it was a positive performance all round."

Crawley Town manager John Yems made four changes from Easter Monday's heavy 4-1 home defeat against Oldham Athletic.

Archie Davies, Jordan Maguire-Drew, James Tilley and Ashley Nadesan replaced Tony Craig, captain George Francomb, Jack Powell and Sam Matthews respectively.

And Wright praised the much-changed Reds for putting in a good shift and playing some lovely football against the Shrimpers.

The midfielder added: "That shows the depth that we've got here and the experience we've got.

"Big Joe (McNerney) was superb so was Tunny (Jordan Tunnicliffe), but I thought everyone was.

"From Cat (Glenn Morris) to Nick (Tsaroulla), right to the front, everyone worked their socks off and did what it takes to be successful at any level, not just League Two.

"We worked hard, we fought for each other, we were picking up second balls and we played some nice stuff, so I think it's a positive day all round."

Crawley make the arduous trip to Yorkshire on Tuesday evening to take on 11th-placed Bradford City on Tuesday evening (7pm kick-off).

Wright in particular is very familiar with the environs at Valley Parade. The 31-year-old made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Bantams during the 2018-19 campaign.

The midfielder was relishing the return to his former club and admitted it was a great place for the Reds to test themselves.

Wright said: "I know that part of the world very well having played there.

"I'll be good to go back there. It's a great place to play football, a great stadium albeit with no fans.

"It's a great place to test ourselves against a team that's near us in the table.

"It's one we're looking forward to and hopefully we can build on today's result."
