'It's good to get that monkey off your back' - Crawley Town boss reacts to first away win in more than a year
Crawley Town beat Oldham Athletic 3-2 to record their first away win in more than a year and John Yems said it was nice to get 'that monkey of their back'.
Goals from Ashley Nadesan, George Francomb and Tom Nichols saw the Reds to victory and Yems was pleased with the win.
He said: "I would have been a lot prouder if we hadn't let two goals in. I told you it would all be about fight, it would all be about spirit.
"They could have nicked one at the end, we could have had another couple. But I thought our three goals were very good.
"I was disappointed with their goals but that's because I am miserable person - well that's what I hear people keep telling me. It's good to get the monkey off your back getting the away win."
He added: "It was a good performance from everybody, I just think as a team, as a collective, there's little partnerships happening which I said would take time, but we are far far from finished.
"Now we have to work even harder and push on now. The hard work starts again on Monday."
Nadesan and Nichols started for the first time together and Yems was pleased with how they played. He said: "I keep hearing 'we've got to have a big man' but we have got good footballers and when you have good, intelligent footballers who can get the ball in the back of the net I don't care if they are 8ft or 2ft 6ins.
"As I say we are far from finished, I am not getting carried away, the players are not getting carried away. We have a tough game next against Southend i's doesn't mean anything if we don't keep the run going."
And Yems said that the team showed a great spirit and hopes that continues as they look to build on the last two wins.
He said: "It's funny how football can change because when we got beat at Port Vale, I think the banners were out saying we didn't know what we were doing, I know what we have got in the locker and what we need to do to push forward. I keep saying to the fans, and they proved it today, whoever goes out on the pitch will have a go for you.
"They will have a go for the badge, for the shit and most importantly for each other. If we keep that spirit going, who knows where it leads you."
