Jade Lally awaits England selection for Commonwealth Games

She has been trying to reach the A standard of 59.50m by Sunday’s qualifying deadline at the weekend’s Bedford International Games but instead reached 57.55m to finish second behind Finland’s Sanna Kamarainen who threw 58.05m.

In the process she beat her British rivals which should stand her in good stead when it comes to the squad being announced next week.

Lally, 27, from Maidenbower said: “I’ve got multiple B standards this year and three A standrards which I recorded last year.

“I hope this will be enough but I am not getting carried away as twice I have been waiitng for good news from selectors and twice I’ve missed out. It’s a horrible feeling.”

Lally was frustratingly left out of the Team GB squad for the London 2012 Olympics, despite being the best discus thrower in Britain. The selectors decided to have no representatives in the women’s discus event.

She also missed out on a two trips to the World Championships in 2011 in South Koreaa and 2013 in Paris.

Jade has previous experience inthe Commonwealths having finished sixth at the 2010 Games in New Delhi in India.

This year has seen her Lottery funding increased three-fold which has helped her training and preparation and allowed her to reduce her hours of paid work.

This year she has been on a week training in Portugal in March followed in April by a three-week training trip to San Diego and in early May competed in the World Challenge in Jamaica.
