Lambert issues challenge

Sidley United manager John Lambert has issued a challenge to any confident young strikers to prove themselves in step five football.

Frustrated at being knocked back by transfer targets due to the absence of a playing budget, Lambert is urging anyone who thinks they’re good enough to play in Sussex County League Division One to give it a go.

He said: “There must be one or two out there who fancy their chances. You would think there would be a few strikers who would think ‘Sidley need a striker, I’m going to try my luck’. Please come along; we’ll welcome anyone and have a look.

“Where are these strikers with ambitions? Why do they want to play in div two? You would think there would be players about who would want to try and play at this level. You’ve got a county one side in this area who can’t get any strikers. It’s bewildering.”

Following the departures of Kenny Pogue and Dominic Clarke, Sidley have been left with limited attacking options yet their recent results have been good with just one defeat in their last six games.
