In the build up to the game, Boro sacked manager Teddy Sheringham on Monday with the club 19th in the league.

The dismissal came after Stevenage haven’t won in eight games, a run which stretches back to December 12th.

Despite long-term injuries to integral trio Steven Schumacher, Ben Kennedy and Dave McAllister, the former England international was dismissed after less than a year in charge.

Reds are hoping to complete their second double of the season, after beating Cambridge United 3-0 at the Abbey Stadium and 1-0 at home.

Change also looks to be on the horizon in West Sussex, with the club said to be close to agreeing a takeover with an overseas-based business consortium.

The club were first put up for sale in March 2013, when the Reds were in League One and were looking to gain the “further substantial funding” needed to win promotion to the Championship.

Despite relegation last season, the takeover should provide the necessary financial investment to help the club to progress.
