Strip away the celebrity circus that surrounded him and Beckham should be regarded as one of the best footballers this island has produced in the Premier League era, and certainly the most significant. Gus Poyet has been suspended by Brighton after an alleged breach of contract. The Uruguayan led the Seagulls into the Championship play-offs, but lost their semi-final to bitter rivals Crystal Palace on Monday night. Poyet had been linked with a move away from the Amex Stadium this summer with Everton and Fulham among the interested clubs, it now looks like he will leave the club. (Daily Mail)
