The Hillians have been back in pre-season training for two weeks, with behind-closed-doors friendly games lined up.

Lovett said: “It’s good to be back. Last year, I came in around November time and it’s hard to change a lot of things when you come in half way through a season.

“At the start of a season, you can implement your own styles and plans and change personnel around a bit as well.

“We’ve got about seven friendlies lined up against various opposition. You can gauge what you need to do and what you need to change, if you need to change anything.”

Burgess Hill have signed a number of new players, including central defender Nathan Cooper from Haywards Heath, announced on Tuesday night.

Lovett added: “We’ve got a fair few new faces to the squad, which freshens it up a bit, as well as a few good players from last season who have stayed put which is great.

“We’re getting a nicely balanced squad. We want to improve on last season. We don’t want to be in the bottom five looking over our shoulders. We are looking for more consistency.”
