Mansfield Town looking to build on win over Cheltenham as Stags prepare for Crawley Town trip
Nigel Clough says Mansfield Town must now build on their midweek win over leaders Cheltenham Town when they face Crawley Town tomorrow (Saturday)
Stags have not won in their last five away outings and travel to Crawley at the weekend for a match between what Clough says are ‘two of the most unpredictable teams in the league.
But Clough knows the importance of coming away with something in order to kick-start an unbeaten run.
“We need to continue in the same way (Cheltenham performance) if we can and put in a complete performance,” Clough said.
“It is one step forward and two back so we want to build on Tuesday night. We are four wins from five at home so that gives us our best chance.
“It is a tough one to build on, but if we can get something at Crawley then we have our home games to look forward to.”
The Stags manager felt his side had been sharp in both boxes against Cheltenham and knows his side need more of the same in Sussex.
“Not giving anything away was the biggest thing,” he added. There were no errors in the game that led to us conceding.
“We put chances away. I don’t think we played any better than against Cambridge (3-0 defeat), we just did those things better.
“When you score three goals in just over ten minutes, that's down to being clinical in one penalty area and dealing with threats at the other end.
“Teams have not been pummelling us and creating lots of chances. It's about concentrating and all the things you need to do to depend properly.
“It is hard to predict what we will get from Crawley. They got a good win over Salford.
“We have two of the most undpreidable teams in the league playing tomorrow.
Clough was also delighted by the individual performances of the players who have made recent costly mistakes.
“Kellan Gordon made mistakes at Barrow, but recovered well and played much better against Cheltenham,” he said.
“Faz Rawson has done well. We help them as a team, but then it's down to their own strength of character and mentality to go out there and show it was a one off.”
