He admitted he had underestimated his striker’s value to the team at the start of the season.

And he thinks Reds will be up against strong opposition, who like Crawley are unbeaten in three games.

Yates said: “They (Hartlepool) are on a good run of form, unbeaten over the last three or four games, like ourselves.

“They have a new manager (Craig Hignett) who has gone in and made an impact to the way they play and a few personnel changes and it’s worked for them.

“It’s going to be a tough game. I’ve read his quotes - they are not scared of any body. They are looking forward to it, they are confident. It should be a good game.

“From what I have seen on the training ground, we are in the same boat!

“Our home form has been pretty good all season, steady away.

“They play 4-1-4-1 system and they have threats that we will have to deal with.

“But if we play with the intensity that we’ve been playing with - I like the shape we’ve had in the last couple of games with the two new boys in particular in midfield, Lyle Della-Verde and Frankie Sutherland, it offers something a bit different.

“We’ve got legs, we’ve got people who can compete and we’ve got Matty (Harrold) who has scored a few goals.

“Matt can be well pleased with his contribution. I didn’t think he would score 20-25 goals but I didn’t really give him the credit when I first came in of how much he would get for be for me and how many games he would play.

“A massive well done to him, he’s been brilliant, but I want him to be brilliant for the next ten games as well.”
