McNerney: We are playing for pride and most for contracts

Joe McNerney says he and his Crawley Town team-mates are playing for professional pride for the remainder of the season.

The central defender also believes with plenty of the squad out of the contract in the summer, they are currently playing for new deals.

McNerney himself has another year to run on the contract he signed last summer when he joined Reds from National League side Woking.

He is only one of three tied to Reds after the end of the campaign along with Gwion Edwards and Simon Walton.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to AFC Wimbledon, McNerny said: “They are going well and going through a tough spells of games, it’ll be a tough one as well and we will have to make sure we are working hard this week, making sure we don’t perform like that again (against Oxford United).

“We haven’t got a lot to play for, we aren’t going to go down and aren’t going to go up, so it’s personal pride.

“Everyone wants to put in good performance and show what they are about and hopefully earn a contract for next year and make sure we are a good strong team towards the end of the season.”
