Mid Sussex League Division 1 Round-up

Phoenix United and Furnace Green Galaxy both dropped down from the Premier League to play their football in Division 1 this season and are joined by two other local sides Crawley Portuguese and Furnace Green Rovers.

Rovers are setting the pace with maximum points from their first five games, Rob Gardner has continued where he left off last season already bagging 10 league goals. He added two this week in Rovers’ 5-1 win over Old Varndenians with Dan Bravery (2) and A.Bartlett getting the fifth.

Phoenix thumped local rivals FG Galaxy 6-0 this week with a hat-trick for A.Lavan, two from Chris Williams and the last from C.Franks.

Crawley Portuguese lost 4-2 at home to Forest Row with goals from P.Freitas and E.Onyengau. Early signs suggest Portuguese and Galaxy will be trying to stay up, while Phoenix and Rovers will be chasing promotion.

Three Bridges have started a new side and they have gone straight into the Championship.

Runaway leaders Smallfield beat Three Bridges 4-3. Smallfield’s T.Tennent who scored all four, while Bridges replied with strikes from M.Canavan, J.Francis and Kieron Purkis.
