After 14 years as an FA council member, Pearce has become one of four representatives from the ‘national-game’ section of the association on the board.

It will give him a good chance to bang the drum for the non-league football at the very top level, sharing a boardroom table with chairman Greg Dyke and other leading officials.

Pearce said: “The main FA board is made up of the chairman, the chief executive, two independent members, two from the Premie, two from the Football League and four from the national game board.

“A vacancy arose for one of the national game members and five of us went for it. I was fortunate enough to be elected.

“There are many issues facing the FA and English football and I look forward to being involved in addressing them.”

Pearce’s appointment is for a two-year term.

Pearce is regarded as Mr Bognor having been at the club for 45 years. He was team manager for an incredible 31 years and is now general manager, keeping the club running behind the scenes.
