Rye future is on the line

Rye United Football Club is appealing for help to save it from the possibility of folding.

The club has called an extraordinary general meeting for next Thursday (March 20) at the Rye United FC Clubhouse at The Salts from 7.30pm.

Rye chairman Clive Taylor said: “Anybody that’s got the slightest interest in Rye United Football Club surviving should attend the meeting. The club is under serious threat of closure.”

Taylor wished not to expand on the club’s predicament at this stage, but said there will be an ‘open discussion about quite a number of things’ during the meeting.

Rye United was formed in 1938 and after winning the East Sussex League in 1950, became founder members of Sussex County Football League Division Two in 1952.

The club has won Division Two and finished runners-up in Division One on four occasions, as well as winning the Division Two Challenge Cup and Sussex RUR Charity Cup twice each, and the John O’Hara League Challenge Cup once. Rye reached the FA Vase quarter-finals in 2010/11.
