Seagulls looking overseas for new left back

Brighton and Hove Albion have taken Derry City left back Danny Lafferty on trial.

The former Northern Ireland Under 21 international is hoping to earn a deal at The Amex having previously been linked to the club earlier in the season.

With Marcos Painter struggling for form and back-up full back Jimmy McNulty now at Championship rivals Barnsley, Gustavo Poyet has been forced to play his assistant Mauricio Taricco or employ Romain Vincelot as a makeshift left back.

At 6ft 1in, Lafferty would also add some height to the Seagulls backline. The 22-year-old started his professional career at Celtic but failed to make a first team appearance.

He also spent 14 games on loan at Ayr United before moving to Derry.
