Seagulls sign new stopper

Gus Poyet has made his first signing of the summer after snapping up former Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

The Polish player made 32 appearances at Old Trafford but was releases in the close season after falling down the pecking order.

He spent some of last term out on loan, playing a dozen times for the Albion’s Championship rivals Watford, and signs a two year deal at The Amex.

Brighton beat off competition from a host of clubs, both in England and abroad, including Ipswich Town and Kuszczak will hope to establish himself as the club’s number one going into the new season.

What that means for current incumbent Casper Ankergren and his back-up Peter Brezovan is unclear, although it would not surprise fans if at least one of the pair found themselves surplus to requirements.

Brighton’s interest in Kuszczak had been revealed on popular fans site www.northstandchat.biz earlier in the summer.
