Three Bridges 0 Corinthian Casuals 1

Bridges competed much better in this enounter but as the game moved into the six minutes of additional time, the general feeling was that neither side deserved to win and equally neither deserved to lose.

And it hardly helped that the winning goal five minutes into that additional six minutes was controversial as Bridges players were convinced that scorer Michael Salako was off-side as he capitalised on good work by Juevan Spencer.

Sadly, it capped a poor display by both the referee and one of his assistants.

Both sides had half decent chances during the game, although the two keepers Kieron Thorp and Danny Bracken comfortably dealt with most that was aimed at them.

Cherno Mendy had an effort blocked and Sammy MacVicar’s header from Steve Sargent’s corner was held.

Thorp then halted a run by Emmanuel Akokhia with a swift clearance, and Mark Pulling’s dipping effort was again held.

Josh Uzun brushed the outside of a post with a free-kick, but then we had a few bookings and also lost MacVicar to an ankle injury.

A lovely knock down by Allan Tait ended with Mitchell Casselman driving just wide of the far post, while a super ball by Matt Whitehead gave Tait a chance which Bracken brilliantly stopped.

Sargent was just wide with a free-kick, and Whitehead – in a more forward role in the second half – was providing the width and the crosses as Bridges strived for a morale-boosting winner.

Then both the referee and his assistant missed that the ball had clearly gone out for a throw-in, and in the resulting melee Whitehead was adjudged to have fouled an opponent and received a second yellow card.

Tempers were a little frayed for a while, and Bridges found it difficult to control their feelings when Salako grabbed the goal and the points for Casuals.
