Terry proud to be nominated for Unsung Hero award
by George Boulton: Terry Scott has been nominated for the BBC Sussex Unsung Hero award and says he is proud to be a candidate.
The Crawley man is shortlisted for the award for his outstanding 45-year contribution to coaching football in his local area.
He said: “There is sort of a mixture of feelings, I feel embarrassed, although I am proud that something I’ve done is appreciated by people.”
Terry’s illustrious career has seen him take part in many aspects of the sport from scouting, training referees and also coaching football to a vast range of age groups.
The 75-year-old began his career in the mid 1960s and his initial satisfaction from coaching was the delight he brought to the children’s faces.
He said: “Well I suppose it’s great when a little boy or little girl will say they’ve enjoyed it.
“I have had parents say to me, ‘oh your still doing it’ which makes me feel old as I used to teach some of them.”
