Academy director Chris Jones was pleased with how the team played on the day, ensuring the academy reached the final for a consecutive year.

He said: “This is a great achievement for the squad and it will be nice to have a showcase to end the season.”

The education programme, which runs along with the football elements, allows students to study BTEC Level 3 or vocational coaching qualifications based on their previous results at GCSE.

The academy is holding its second round of trials on Saturday, March 12 on the 3G training pitch in Broadfield opposite the Checkatrade Stadium, starting at 2pm.
