Three Bridges 1 Walton & Hersham 0: Adelakun seals home win

The much changed Walton side were helped by goalkeeper Liam Beach, who thwarted Bridges on many an occasion, but this wasn't Bridges at their best.

They were hardly helped though by Tony Garrod departing from the action before the first half was completed, a hamstring injury looking likely to mean that his much interrupted season is over already!

But it was Garrod who produced the first decent save from Liam Beach after 19 minutes, and the follow up from Sammy MacVicar was pushed away too for a corner.

But two minutes later came the only goal of the game, both Garrod and MacVicar being unselfish with their passes before Hakeem Adelakun lashed the ball home despite the efforts of Beach.

Ben Godfrey headed just over from a Steve Sargent corner soon after, while a deep cross by Theo Newton brought the first decent chance for Walton, but early substitute Kambo Smith fired over the bar.

And five minutes before half-time Smith had the visitors’ best chance when he made a good run through the middle only to be denied by a fine save from Kieron Thorp, who was Bridges captain in the absence of the suspended Jamie Crellin.

But the first half closed with Beach making a good save from Adelakun with Drew Cooney shooting just wide from the resulting corner, while Abu Touray had an effort blocked as he latched onto a delightful through-ball from Adelakun.

The second half was a bit of a non-event however. Walton made sporadic attacks but the Bridges backline was once again resolute with Nigel Brake being particularly stubborn and surely questioning all those who think he is ready for retirement just yet.

Adelakun was close with a free-kick, while in added-time Jamie Brotherton stung Beach’s hands and from the resulting corner was twice denied by a keeper who will be very important to them in their bid to survive the threat of relegation.
