Three Bridges 3 Whitstable Town 0

With Bridges starting the game with just one point from their opening three fixtures and Whitstable in an even worse situation with three defeats out of three, this was always going to be a must-win match.

And Whitstable hardly helped themselves when they were reduced to ten men after only eight minutes. Tony Garrod broke on the right and seemed odds on to score, but Ollie Gray pulled the ball back with his hands on the line and was show a straight red card.

Worse still for the Oystermen was that Bridges were also awarded a penalty which BEN GODFREY duly despatched.

The ten men tried hard but were often caught open at the back, and chances were spurned, the most notable seeing Garrod drag wide after a superb through ball from Godfrey.

But GARROD made amends after 32 minutes when he latched onto a quickly taken free-kick to drill past keeper Adam Highsted. And the second half started with Godfrey having his shot blocked and Garrod forcing Highsted to tip over superbly.

Allan Tait had a shot blocked as he met Garrod’s cross, and Whitstable began to pick up a hat-trick of bookings as they appeared to lose heart.

They weren’t helped by a stubborn Bridges back-four, full-backs Dan Mobsby and Matt Daniel continuing the good form shown in their midweek League Cup success.

Five minutes from time substitute John Lansdale robbed a defender only to shoot wide, but a minute into added time Lansdale’s low cross evaded Godfrey but was clipped home deliciously by another substitute MARK PULLING.

Bridges: Thorp, Mobsby, Daniel, Sargent, Donaghey, Crellin, Whitehead (Adelakun 82), Carney, Tait (Pulling 82), Garrod (Lansdale 79), Godfrey.

Attendance; 91
