Three Bridges suffer easy defeat by classy Carshalton

He’d latched on to a glorious long ball from Carshalton’s answer to Ya Ya Toure, Peter Adeniyi, who ruled the match for long periods.

And after nine minutes the home side were duly in front when right back Ricardo Panton broke free and sent in a cracking shot that even Kieron Thorp had no chance of stopping.

Somehow Carshalton failed to add to their tally before half time as Brendan Murphy-McVey, Panton and Korboa all fired over the bar when well placed.

And Bridges had a couple of half decent efforts from Sammy MacVicar and Hakeem Adelakun before, on the stroke of half-time.

Callum Donaghey’s excellent header from Steve Sargent’s corner was cleared off the line by Tommy Bradford before Drew Cooney’s follow up was blocked.

Carshalton were playing a lot of good football from the back and knew when to hit dangerous long balls for their speedy wingers, and after 54 minutes Korboa broke from the half-way line and finished by chipping Thorp to double The Robins’ advantage.

Donaghey headed wide from another Sargent corner before Korboa broke away again on the left in the 66th minute before cutting inside and firing home.

With three teenagers on the pitch by now, Bridges did gain a consolation after 78 minutes.

Mitchell Casselman dispossessed Adeniyi and slipped the ball through for Jamie Brotherton to comfortably beat keeper Luke Colquhoun, who had earlier performed brilliantly to keep out an audacious lob by Adelakun from the half-way line!

But within a minute of Brotherton’s goal, a low cross from the left by Paris Hamilton-Downes got all the way across to the far post, where Bradford slammed high into the roof of the net.

And in added-time, Bradford thought he’d added another with a point-blank header, but Thorp made a brilliant save. And there was just time for Adelakun to drive just over the crossbar.

But Bridges were well beaten by a very good passing side that looked totally comfortable on their 3G pitch.
