The winger/full-back was also feeling positive about the new young squad which Dermot Drummy fielded against East Grinstead.

He said: “There were some really good signs today. We are not going to be the finished article in the first game of pre-season.

“I could see right from the first day we have come in everyone has bought in to what the manager wants - not just the manager but the whole management team.

“The lads have really got on and a lot of us have crossed paths before.

“When the going gets tough during long runs, we have pushed each other on and hopefully that will continue during the season.

“The sky can be the limit and it’s down to us to set our own goals and dominate as many games as possible.

“It was all about the fitness side. It was really nice to get the new pattern of play going.

“The players the manager has kept here from last year are going to be vital for us and the players who have come in have brought in a lot of energy.”
