The former Southampton player was the star of the show and was rightly named the man of the match.

Bridges got off to a fantastic start after some atrocious defending from the Robins allowed Ben Godfrey to calmly lay the ball back to captain Lee Carney to open the scoring, with a well-timed half-volley which clipped the underside of the bar on its way into the top left-hand corner, with just eight minutes gone.

After taking the lead, the West Sussex club never looked back and were firmly in control for the rest of the game and could have scored three of four before half-time after creating a catalogue of chances, but were unable to convert any.

The closest they came to doubling their lead before the break was a Godfrey strike which just sailed past the post after a clever turn.

Three minutes after the restart and Bridges finally doubled their lead thanks to a fine finish from Garrod, who latched onto a long ball and sprinted into the box before placing the ball in the bottom right-hand corner to make it 2-0 to the home side.

Carshalton, who created very little were gifted a goal by Bridges after a poor clearance fell to Oliver Thornton, who scored a simple tap-in to make it 2-1.

However Garrod soon squashed any hopes the away side had of equalising by netting immediately from the restart.

Garrod produced a moment of quality that proved exactly why he was on the books at Southampton.

Picking the ball up on the left wing, he curled an excellent strike into the far top corner which left Bridges manager Paul Faili and fans alike stunned.

Bridges completed the rout four minutes later after Matt Whitehead won a free-kick on the edge of the box, after a mazy run.
