Jack Powell admitted that Crawley Town's entertaining 3-3 draw at Stevenage this (Saturday) afternoon was the type of game the Reds should be winning.

The midfielder was Crawley's hero at The Lamex Stadium, crashing home from 20-yards in second half stoppage time to ensure the Reds took a share of the points.

Luke Norris' penalty in the first half was cancelled out by Crawley captain George Francomb.

The Boro striker netted his second in the second half before Terence Vancooten put through his own net to make it 2-2.

Substitute Arthur Read curled home late on but Powell's rocket snatched a point for John Yems' side.

Powell said: "Scoring so late probably made it a good draw but we want to come here and win these games.

"We are where we are but we want to finish as high as we can so I feel like we should be coming here and winning really.

"We created chances to win the game, they had their chances as well, but we let in some sloppy goals so it's a little bit frustrating really.

"It sort of got us going when we conceded in a way. We knew that we had to fight and dig in again, and it kind of gives you a little bit of get up and go.

"We should really be taking the game to them to try and get in front.

"But we showed that fight and we've showed that a lot this season. We've had a lot of late goals.

"Today maybe we did deserve the point but we want to win these games. It's a little frustrating but it is what it is."

Powell played the part of provider for Francomb's equaliser on 24 minutes with a move straight off the training ground.

The midfielder's drilled corner found the Reds skipper who steered the ball home.

Powell added: "It's something we worked on yesterday and when it comes off, it's always nice when it happens.

"George adjusted his feet really well and it was a really good finish from him on his weak foot.

"It was nice to see that come off and get back into the game after going 1-0 down."

Powell's late leveller from distance was his third goal in all competitions during the 2020-21 campaign.

The midfielder was delighted to be Crawley's saviour but expressed his disappointment that he hadn't found the back of the net with more regularity this season.

He said: "I had a shot before that I didn't hit very well and the defender blocked it.

"You just make those decisions. I'll shoot when I feel like it's on and obviously I shot at the end it came good.

"I'm pleased to get the goal but I probably should have scored a few more.

"I know I can strike a ball, so that's probably why you get the gaffer (Yems) moaning because I can strike a shot!

"I managed today but there wasn't enough time (to win it) in the end so it's good to take the point."

The result at Stevenage saw the Reds move up to 12th in the League Two table. Yems' side have taken 61 points from 45 games, with one fixture left to play.

Crawley host promotion-chasing Bolton Wanderers next Saturday, and Powell has called on the Reds to finish the season with a flourish.

He added: "We're all hoping to finish in the top half of the table. That's a goal of ours going into the last game.

"We're 12th so we're in there at the minute, and a win will secure that top half finish.

"We're always setting ourselves challenges, even now with one game to go.

"If you finish strongly in the season before then it's something to build on for next season."
