Young keen to stay at Crawley

The midfielder/full-back was recalled by the new boss in his first game in charge, a 3-0 defeat at Dagenham, and enjoyed a good game as part of the new attack-minded set-up and was praised by the former Chelsea U21 coach afterwards.

Young said: “The lads who have been out of the side (myself included) were given a chance.

“We all had a point to prove, as good as we have been at times, we have let ourselves down as well, losing so many on the bounce.

“Everyone’s bought into it and what Dermot’s saying. We had a really good first half but didn’t in the second.

“I’ve really enjoyed the first few days under the new manager. You could see straight away he’s from the top level, from the quotes he uses.

“He’s brought in some fresh ideas. I have no doubt he will do well here as he comes from two clubs (Arsenal and Chelsea) who always play passing, attacking football.”

Young, 26, is keen to improve under his new boss and wants to finish the season with a better result in their final match of the season at home to Barnet this Saturday.

“We will try to put into practise what we have learnt in the last few days.”

Like all but three of the squad, Young’s contract finishes at the end of the season and he is keen to stay on for a third season at Crawley and continue working with the new boss.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed myself at Crawley. Although we came down last season, this season we have kept ourselves in the League.

“I believe the new manager will be very successful and I’d love to be part of the set-up next season.”

Drummy said: “The players on contract I am happy with, they have got to take on board what I want, it’s a fresh approach.

“It is also a hard one as I have to look at the players that are out of contract, they have got to earn another contract, knowing we are looking to bring in other players as well.

“It’s life, it’s a tough life and that’s my lesson to learn, that I have to talk to players about their careers and that’s a hard one.”
