FULL-TIME: Crawley Town 0 Stevenage Borough 3

CRAWLEY Town manager Steve Evans admitted his side's play-off hopes are over as they fell to one of their biggest defeats of the season.

The champions elect were one of the few sides this season to dominate Crawley from start to finish and in fact the Red Devils were never in the game again after going behind in the fifth minute.

Yemi Odubade beat Town's defence for pace to put the visitors ahead from the opening attack of the game.

The former Oxford Utd striker then added another from a breakaway move, again leaving the home defenence in their tracks before slotting in from the right.

Crawley's best efforts came from star striker Charlie Ademeno, but despite going close a couple of times, Crawley never looked that convincing.

Ademeno forged no fewer than three chances in quick succession midway between the first two Stevenage goals.

He crossed for Glenn Wilson who headed wide, created another threatening move across goal which no-one could reach and then finally turned and twisted before putting a hot over the bar.

However the day was all about Stevenage edging closer to securing the title and following an almighty downpour of rain which turned into hail, Stevenage sealed victory.

Substitute Joel Byrom scored an incredible wondergoal for his side's third 20 minutes before the end. He saw Crawley keeper Simon Rayner off his line and took a shot from just two yards inside the Crawley half.

The ball flew over back-tracking Rayner's head and into his goal for what must be a candidate for goal of the season as Stevenage finished with a well-deserved three points and Crawley were left to rue the effective end of their season as a competitive force.
